Case Study

“I started using Tagmap last year on a youth project for London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

It was after the 7/7 attacks and we were tasked with helping young Muslim people to discuss issues they were having to deal with as a result. There was a strong feeling the media was misrepresenting the whole community.

We got in touch with Bold Creative and started using Tagmap to help engage young people and give them an opportunity to have their voice heard.

We worked with them to make short documentaries about issues such as the media, their relationships with their Imam, being British and of course the 7/7 bombers themselves.

Tagmap was great as the workshop program allowed us to get in touch with young people in a new and fun way they really enjoyed. I was worried I didn’t have much film making experience, but the cameras we used were really easy to use and the group got to grips with them straight away!

We didn’t even need to do any editing. The young people really enjoyed posting the films onto their map – they are all proud of their community and didn’t need much encouragement to ‘Tag’ their area with their films. It really made them feel like they were spokespeople for their community and peers.

Tagmap did go onto make a real difference and our young people are dying to start the next project!”
